This novelette by Charlie Stross is a couple of years old now, and apparently it was in one of the yearly Gardner Dozois sci-fi anthologies. But the local bookstore has been lousy at stocking those... and the last one I did get, had undergone some strange transformation at the printers, wherein large chunks of pages were missing, with other ones in their place... there's quality assurance for you...

Anyway, the point is I'd completely missed this, which is a shame, because it's really good if you like this sort of thing.
